Canadian Museum and Gallery Salaries Article from Canadian Art, April 2019
In Canadian Art's Here Are Ontario’s Highest-Paid Museum and Gallery Directors, Leah Sandals reviews the recent release of Ontario's annual Sunshine List, which details provincial-payroll salaries that are $100,000 or more. Using recent reports, Sandals examines wages and equity in the Canadian cultural sectors, and interviews GEMM co-founder, Joan Baldwin, on museum salaries.
Sandals includes references to a "recent study by Hill Strategies" that looked at artists and cultural workers. The author also mentions Michael Maranda's 2017 public gallery leadership analysis for Canadian Art, which found "the bigger the gallery, the fewer women in power. And the less money a gallery receives, the more likely its leadership is Indigenous."
